Eskendereya emerged as the solid individual choice to win the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands but the “All Others” betting interest remained the overall fans’ choice as Pool 2 of the Derby Future Wage closed.
Eskendererya, following a workout at Palm Meadows yesterday morning, dropped to a strong 5-1 choice among the 23 individual horses. He had closed Saturday at 6-1. But the mutuel field was the 3-1 overall choice when the pool closed Sunday evening. .
Other horses that received relatively strong backing in the second of the year’s three futures pools included Lookin at Lucky, who closed at odds of 9-1, and Dublin, a 10-1 risk. Buddy’s Saint was next at 16-1.
Should he win the Kentucky Derby, Eskenderaya will return $13.80 for a $2 win wager in Pool 2.. The Giant’s Causeway colt closed at 22-1 in Pool 1. Todd Pletcher’s six-pack of Pool 2 horses was completed by Rule (20-1), Conveyance (28-1), Discreetly Mine (37-1), Connemara (46-1) and Aikenite (57-1).
Derby fans wagered $170,750 on Sunday to lift the Pool 2 final betting total to $355,853. That total includes $86,547 in exacta betting. The third and final pool of Churchill Downs’ 2010 Kentucky Derby Future Wager is set for March 26-28.
Blind Luck was a start-to-finish favorite in the Kentucky Oaks Future Wager despite her third-place finish in the Santa Anita Oaks on Saturday. She remained the 4-1 fans’ choice in this year’s only pool for the Oaks. Amen Hallelujah was the second choice at 6-1, and Christine Daae was the 7-1 third choice although she has yet to compete in a stakes race during her three-race career. The Mutuel Field closed at 7-1. A total of $61,901 was wagered in the 2010 Kentucky Oaks Future Wager.

Other information
It's the twelfth year the Kentucky Derby Future Wager has been offered. In 2010, each Pool will be open three days instead of the four we've seen in the past.
Pool 1 – Feb. 12-14 Pool 2 – March 5-7 Pool 3 – March 26-28
A single pool for the Kentucky Oaks Future wager will coincide with the March 5-7 Derby Pool 2.
Betting will open on each of the Derby and Oaks pools on Friday at noon ET. The Kentucky Derby pools will close at 6:00 p.m. ET on Sunday, while betting on the lone Kentucky Oaks pool will conclude at 6:30 p.m. ET.
Exacta wagering, offered in Kentucky Derby Pools 2 and 3 for the first time in 2009, will be offered during all three Derby pools in 2010. The Kentucky Oaks Future Wager will not offer exacta wagering.
The Derby and Oaks pools each consist of 24 wagering interests that include 23 individual horses and a mutuel field, or “all others” interest. In the Kentucky Derby wager, the mutuel field includes all other 3-year-olds. The mutuel field in the Kentucky Oaks bet includes all other 3-year-old fillies.
All bets in the future wagers are $2 minimum wagers. There are no refunds on any wagers. If it is determined during those pools that one of the individual horses has suffered an illness, injury or other circumstance that will prevent that horse from competing in either race, wagering on that betting interest will be suspended at that point.
